If you’re in town for a few months, weeks or even days, and you like to party, then the chances are you’ll find yourself staring into the bloodshot eyes of Fukuoka’s cheeriest rooster at least once. With a reliably packed dancefloors, a crowd-pleasing mix of Urban, Hip-Hop and Trance, and foreigner-friendly staff, it’s no surprise that on Friday or Saturday nights you’ll find short-skirted locals, haggard ELTS and lost-looking tourists in Daimyo all headed in the same direction. What keeps people coming back, and sets Happy Cock apart from many of Fukuoka’s other dancebarns, is that it’s easy to feel at home: a regularly-updated slideshow of previous nights’ party people gives Happy Cock a hometown feel, and the soundtrack is heavy with requests and floor-fillers. On Thursdays the first 50 punters get the notorious all-you-can-drink “Party Passes” for just ¥1,200, and on Fridays and Saturdays nomihodai is ¥3,000 for men or ¥2,000 for women.
