The Pearly Plates

Japan’s most glamorous export is its pearls, and the producers of these native gemstones are no less exquisite: oysters are pure luxury for the tastebuds. At the brand new “Gumbo and Oyster Bar”, pearls take a backseat to the rich, sumptuous flavors of oysters. This swanky new bar, located inside Shuko Koji (the fashionable restaurant complex near Hotel Il Palazzo) features domestic shucks and oysters from around the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. You’re guaranteed to slurp from shells in their best season! These high-end half-shells start at 330 yen each and top out with the Seattle Kumamoto Oyster at 480 yen a pop. If your oyster expertise is lacking, educate your palate with the World Oyster Plate, a sampler of eight different varieties. But for something truly unique, indulge in an Oyster Shooter – an oyster crowned with condiments in a stylish shooter glass that will entertain your mouth with a velvety medley of flavors. Compliment your selection with a glass of their original draft beer: a dark, Guinness-like stout made with oyster shells. The menu also features Lousiana-style gumbo, pan roasts, pasta, salads and other side dishes.
