九州地方知事会と九州の経済団体でつくる九州地域戦略会議は、会合を開き、九州を訪れる外国人をさらに増やすため、玄関口となる各県の空港同士の連携を目指すことで一致した。同会議によると、九州を訪れた外国人は2018年に約511万人で、九州での外国人による観光消費額は4040億円だった。同会議では2023年にそれぞれ786万人、1.2兆円まで引き上げる目標を揚げているが、福岡空港は、発着数が上限に近く、余裕のある空港との連携が課題となっている。今後、同会議内にプロジェクトチームを設置し、官民で具体的な連携策を検討する。
