The Kyushu Regional Strategy Council, a body composed of Kyushu Governor’s Association members, the Kyushu Economic Federation and other local business groups, held a meeting where they agreed to promote cooperation among the airports in each prefecture as a means to further increase inbound tourism to Kyushu. According to the Council, about 5.11 million foreign tourists visited Kyushu in 2018 and spent ¥404 billion. The Council has set a target of attracting 7.86 million foreign visitors and achieving ¥1.2 trillion in tourism spending by 2023, but Fukuoka Airport is already operating near capacity, so collaboration with other airports that have capacity for take-offs and landings remains an issue. Going forward, the council will establish a public-private project team to deliberate the nuts and bolts of how to realize this cooperation. Source: fiba.jp
