Located inside Uminonakamichi Kaihin National Park and surrounded by the ocean and greenery lies The Luigans, a residence type luxury resort hotel.
Two years ago Tokyo-based Plan Do See, of “With The Style Fukuoka” fame completely remodeled the previous hotel on the same premises. As a result, there’s plenty of “style” to enjoy, beginning with an interior inspired by the works of Luis Barragan, one of Mexico’s most influential 20th century architects.
In addition to three small specialty restaurants (kaiseki, tempura, and teppan) there is a main dinning room and then our recommendation, “The Lounge on the Water” featuring views of the three swimming pools and Hakata Bay.
The lounge extends from the lobby and counter bar to a spacious outdoor patio. In fine weather or especially around sunset, it’s hard to imagine a more luxurious nor relaxed atmosphere so close to downtown Fukuoka. Speaking of which, The Luigans is closer than you think.
Access by car from Hakata is possible in twenty minutes, and there’s even a free shuttle bus from Hakata Station.
For more of an adventure, consider catching a 15 ~20 minute ferry from either Bayside Place or Marinoa. The food, drinks and service is all very international including English menus.
During the Summer barbecue dinners on the lawn are available by reservation for just ¥5,000 per person. Call or check their website for more information on other special plans.
