SHOFUKUJI – JAPAN’S FIRST ZEN TEMPLE ::: Today about 200 monks from around Japan gathered at Shofukuji Temple in central Fukuoka to mark the anniversary of the death of the legendary monk Eisai. He is credited with bringing the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism and green tea from China to Japan. He spent many of his years at Shofukuji. (6 photos)
