Hakata Mochitsuki

START: Jan 7, 2026 END: Jan 7, 2026

Local traditional sweets maker Ishimura Manseido Honten celebrates its 120th anniversary on Dec 25, 2025, with its annual New Year event, “Hakata Mochitsuki.” This traditional rice-pounding ceremony, accompanied by shamisen and taiko music, features energetic chants and rhythms as mochi is prepared—fun to watch and delicious to taste. In honor of the anniversary, the event will be held in two sessions (morning and afternoon), with freshly pounded mochi served to 120 guests per session.

The event also features performances of Hakata folk songs by Hakata Nanotsukai and the lively Oppekepe-bushi, offering an up-close experience of local culture. Additional attractions include live-grilled mitarashi dango, limited-edition 120th anniversary fukubukuro (lucky bags), and a photo frame workshop—making it an enjoyable outing for all ages.
