Fukuoka City has outlined revisions to its outdoor advertising ordinance to tighten controls on “ad trucks” circulating in central areas such as Tenjin and Hakata. The proposal, presented to an expert panel on 19 November, would require all ad trucks operating in the city to obtain permission and make them subject to existing bans on flashing or blinking lights. The city also plans a new rule limiting the advertising surface on each vehicle to 20 square metres. A six-month survey to September found that about 90% of the trucks in Tenjin and around Hakata Station advertised adult entertainment businesses, and all identifiable vehicles were registered outside the city and currently fall outside its permit system. Fukuoka aims to reduce such vehicles through the revision, with public comments from late December and a planned October implementation after assembly approval next March. Source: RKB
