This festival grew out of the actions of a citizens group called the Ajisaka 21 Association, who started planting poppy seeds on a member’s farmland as a means of revitalizing the local area. The best time to see the flowers is May, when as many as 1 million poppies come into bloom. The festival is held over a weekend in the middle of May, giving visitors the chance to pick-up local goods and sample foods from the area.
