Rice Ladle Design for Station Roof


A new roof has been placed over the plaza area at the east entrance of the JR Kumamoto Station in Kumamoto City that resembles a giant rice ladle. Ryue Nishizawa, the architect who designed the roof, said he used the concept of a white cloud. According to Kumamoto Prefecture, the roof is 50 meters long, 40 meters wide at the widest point, and 40 centimeters thick.
