Mayor Ask Citizens to Take Precautions Over Long Weekend

On July 22, Fukuoka Prefecture announced 61 more instances of novel coronavirus infections. The prefecture has set record-high single-day counts for two consecutive days. Forty-four of those cases were found in Fukuoka City, where younger patients (under 39 years old) made up the majority. As four-day holidays have just begun in Japan, the mayor of Fukuoka City, Soichiro Takashima, reminded residents of the importance of minimizing the risks of infections amongst older adults and those with underlying diseases. He advises all residents to avoid contacts between younger generations and older people, including visiting grandparents, during the holidays. UPDATE: On July 23, the number of new infections recorded in Fukuoka Prefecture dropped to 12. Sources: NHK / Fukuoka Prefecture / Mayor’s Blog
