The number of organized crime members in Fukuoka Prefecture has fallen below 1,000 for the first time since records began in 1992, according to the Fukuoka Prefectural Police. As of the end of 2024, there were approximately 980 gang members and affiliates, a decrease of 100 from the previous year and the 11th consecutive annual decline.
The largest group, the Kudo-kai in Kitakyushu, saw its membership drop by 80% compared to its 2008 peak. The police cite factors such as waning loyalty among senior members, financial difficulties, and dissatisfaction with organizations. Support programs for those leaving gangs are ongoing, with 47 individuals successfully reintegrated in 2024. Source: NHK
