Held at Ohana, the former residence of the Yanagawa domain’s Tachibana family with a history of about 300 years, this annual summer night art event returns with the theme “Kikiki no Kikaiyako” (Strange Night Parade).
The exhibition features yokai-themed lanterns crafted by Ito Gonjiro Shoten, a workshop with over 200 years of tradition in making Yame lanterns. In addition, original yokai illustrations by Kenji Sasaoka, who served as the first chief assistant to Shigeru Mizuki, creator of GeGeGe no Kitaro, will be on special display.
At the Tachibana Family Archives Museum, visitors can also view the illustrated scroll The Tale of Butayu of Geishu, which depicts legendary yokai passed down through the Tachibana family.
