Swine Fever Found In Kurume Wild Boars, Vaccine Bait Scattered

Fukuoka Prefecture began distributing oral vaccine baits on August 27 after swine fever was confirmed in wild boars in Kurume. The first infected carcass was discovered on August 12, followed by a second case on August 26 about 600 meters away. In response, authorities are placing 1,600 biscuit-shaped vaccine baits across 80 sites within a 10-kilometer radius covering Kurume, Hirokawa, and Yame over three days. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary entry into these areas and not to remove the baits. This is the first confirmed case of swine fever in the prefecture since 1981. Source: NHK
