The Fukuoka Regional Taxation Bureau held its 102nd annual sake appraisal on September 18, evaluating junmai, ginjo, and shochu from breweries in Fukuoka, Saga, and Nagasaki. Ninety-two ginjo entries from 44 breweries were submitted, with 50 advancing to the final tasting. Twelve judges assessed aroma, flavor, and balance. Despite rising rice prices and record summer heat affecting crop quality, officials noted many entries were clean and well-crafted, reflecting breweries’ technical skill. Judges highlighted ongoing concerns about shrinking sake rice cultivation but praised the overall high standard. Results, including the top award, will be announced on October 31. Source: KBC / NHK
