A 52-year-old Fukuoka Prefectural Police inspector indicted for sexual assault died after attempting suicide in the Fukuoka Detention Center. Yoichi Shimokawa, formerly a section chief at Kasuya Police Station, was accused of assaulting a female subordinate in May. He was found unconscious in his cell on September 26 and died on October 2.
