Tenjin Underground Mall carried out its annual disaster drill on November 26, a day after a quake in the Aso region caused shaking across Kyushu. The mall sees up to 300,000 daily users and conducts training ahead of the year-end period. About 150 staff members practiced responding to a scenario involving a seismic intensity of lower 6 and a subsequent fire. Workers used extinguishers for initial firefighting, issued evacuation announcements in English, Korean, and Chinese, and closed shutters to prevent fire spread to about 150 stores. A rescue drill was also held for a worker assumed to be trapped inside a shop. Officials stressed the need for readiness in light of projections of major damage in a strong quake along the Kego Fault Zone. Source: RKB
