House Foods announced a new limited-edition flavor of its long-running instant noodle brand Umakacchan, introducing “Kurume-style tonkotsu.” The product was developed as part of the company’s “Energizing Kyushu Project,” launched in 2021 to support regional culture and industries. Umakacchan has sold an estimated 4.2 billion servings and remains a staple in Kyushu households. The new flavor aims to highlight the heritage of Kurume ramen, which will mark its 90th anniversary next year. A House Foods researcher from Kurume helped develop the product, focusing on a rich pork-bone flavor and characteristic foam associated with local ramen. Representatives from the Kurume Ramen Association praised the authenticity of the taste at a tasting event. The product will be sold for a limited time starting February 2 at supermarkets in Kyushu, Okinawa, and Yamaguchi. Source: KBC News / House Foods
