Based on the best-selling picture book Arashi no Yoru ni, this kabuki adaptation returns to Hakataza. The story of a wolf and a goat who meet on a stormy night and form a friendship across species lines has long resonated with audiences of all ages.
Shidō Nakamura stars as Gabu the wolf, with Ichitarō Nakamura as Mei the goat. Blending traditional kabuki elements—stylized movement, swordplay, and musical expression—with the world of the picture book, the production has been praised since its 2015 debut as a fresh direction for kabuki. This revival features updated direction to more delicately portray emotional nuance and atmosphere. A February Hanagata Kabuki performance well-suited for newcomers to the genre.
