Sugino-ya, Fukuoka’s first local craft beer brewery operated by Hamachi Shuzo (founded in 1870), hosts its annual kura-biraki (brewery opening) in February, when sake production is at its peak. Visitors can enjoy freshly brewed new sake and limited-edition unfiltered nama-zake available only at this time, along with specialties such as sake lees manju that highlight the flavors of fermentation.
Marking the brewery’s 150th anniversary, the former sake storehouse has been renovated into a new facility, Sakagura Garten, currently in its pre-opening phase. The fermentation-themed space serves its new signature “Garten Lager,” available exclusively on draft.
On the day, a reservation-only shuttle bus operates between Kyudai-Gakkentoshi Station and the venue (round-trip ¥500 / 092-400-4071), making access by public transportation convenient.
