Births in Fukuoka Fall to Record Low

The number of babies born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 2025 fell to 33,027, the lowest level since comparable records began in 2010, according to preliminary figures released by the health ministry. The total declined by 603 from the previous year, marking the twelfth consecutive annual decrease. Deaths exceeded births by 30,191, continuing the prefecture’s natural population decline. Fukuoka City recorded 11,835 births, down 59 from the previous year, while Kitakyushu saw 5,356 births, a drop of 119. In response to the declining birthrate, the prefectural government has included measures in its supplementary budget to support families with children, including a payment of ¥10,000 per child as part of broader efforts to assist households raising children.
