Hakozaki Shrine, known for its long approach road stretching straight toward Hakata Bay, hosts a seasonal hydrangea display each early summer. In the shrine’s 1,700-tsubo hydrangea garden, located at the western rear of the grounds, around 3,500 hydrangea plants representing 100 varieties bloom against the backdrop of the main shrine building.
The garden features hydrangeas in shades of blue, purple, and white, creating a tranquil setting surrounded by trees where visitors can enjoy the flowers at a leisurely pace. The soft atmosphere of the rainy season adds to the appeal. Around the same time, approximately 5,000 lilies from 30 varieties also come into bloom in the flower garden along the approach path, making this a popular early summer spot for enjoying both hydrangeas and lilies.
