Redevelopment of Kitakyushu’s Tanga Market reached another milestone with the announcement of plans for a new commercial building highlighting the city’s food culture. Kitakyushu-based Daiei Sangyo was selected as the preferred operator for the upper floors of the new Tanga Market Ichibankan through a public bidding process. Under plans released on July 1, the second floor will feature about 20 restaurants, mainly from Kitakyushu, divided into four themed areas showcasing the city’s diverse culinary traditions. A shared dining space will also allow visitors to enjoy food purchased from the first-floor market. The market level is scheduled to open by the end of 2026, followed by a partial opening of the second floor in spring 2027 and the full opening in spring 2028. Source: TNC News / Nishinippon Shimbun
