Fukuoka to establish secondary-capital promotion office

Fukuoka Prefecture will establish a Secondary Capital Promotion Office on Oct. 1 as it seeks designation to host central government functions during a major disaster. The office will have six dedicated staff members. A related national law was promulgated in late July, and the government plans to set designation criteria by ordinance in late October. The office will coordinate with the national government, Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu City while also strengthening cooperation among Kyushu prefectures. Gov. Seitaro Hattori said Fukuoka aims to become a growth center that channels Asia’s growth into Japan. Source: NHK News / Fukuoka Prefecture
