Toka Ebisu Shrine hosts three days of events centered on matchmaking, traditional culture, music and food. After sunset, around 300 votive lanterns illuminate the shrine grounds, while the daily program ranges from traditional wedding ceremonies and kimono fashion shows to taiko drumming, samurai performances, live music and a large-scale calligraphy dedication.
On Oct 3, a special prayer ceremony is held for en-musubi, the matchmaking blessing associated with Daikoku, alongside opportunities to experience traditional Japanese culture. The program also includes taiko performances, samurai troupe demonstrations and the creation of a 10-meter-long calligraphy work as an offering to the shrine.
On Oct 4, Hakata geigi perform Hakata Odori, followed by high school bands, children’s dance groups and other stage performances. Throughout all three days, visitors can also find limited-edition shrine items, special goshuin stamps, food trucks and stalls serving local Fukuoka specialties.
The event extends into the grassy area of Higashi Park, making it possible to spend time enjoying food and music as well as the shrine ceremonies.
