Held twice a year in spring and autumn, this three-day pottery fair takes place in Koishiwara, Toho Village, where ceramics have been produced for around 350 years. Visitors can tour local kilns producing Koishiwara ware, known for everyday tableware, and Takatori ware, traditionally associated with tea ceramics, while browsing new pieces and practical items for daily use.
Around 50 kilns and galleries are scattered mainly along the national highway. In the center of the village are a roadside station and shared exhibition hall, while quieter side roads lead past terraced rice fields, thatched-roof houses and other scenes typical of this mountain community.
Part of the appeal is exploring the village itself while moving between workshops. During the fair, individual kilns introduce new works and often offer selected pieces at special prices.
A free shuttle bus operates between JR Hikosan Station and Gallery Koishiwara during the event.
