Kaizuka Station to introduce facial-recognition gates

JR Kyushu will introduce Kyushu’s first facial-recognition ticket gates at Kaizuka Station, scheduled to open in spring 2027. The new station will sit between Chihaya and Hakozaki on the Kagoshima Line, beside the former Kyushu University Hakozaki campus redevelopment. Passengers who register in advance will be able to pass through without tapping an IC card. JR Kyushu says internal tests have shown sufficient accuracy and response speed, and it also plans to introduce the technology at Hakata Station. Kaizuka Station is also expected to have information terminals using generative AI. Source: TNC News / Nikkei
