Kyushu Symphony plans ticket increases to restore profitability

The Kyushu Symphony Orchestra plans to raise ticket prices by up to ¥600 from fiscal 2027 as it works toward profitability by fiscal 2028. The orchestra effectively recorded ordinary losses for six consecutive years through fiscal 2024. Revenue rose ¥60 million in fiscal 2025 as commissioned performances and other work increased, although investment in personnel remains necessary. Chairman Hisashi Goto said the goal was a sustainable surplus rather than a one-off improvement. The 2027 program will feature Beethoven’s music for the 200th anniversary of his death and the orchestra’s first children’s concert with conducting and instrument experiences in Kumamoto.
