Fukuoka-based discount retailer Trial took the top spot for the second year running in the annual ranking of retail companies by sales in the Kyushu-Okinawa region for FY 2012. Conducted by the Fukuoka Branch of Tokyo Shoko Research, the survey covered the same 149 companies, i.e., those with sales of ¥5 billion or more, as the 2011 survey. Seventeen of these companies reported lower revenues year-on-year, 18 reported higher revenues and 78 said their gross receipts were “about the same”. Of the five sectors covered in the survey, “Home Improvement and Discount Stores” was the only sector to report across-the-board sales gains.
