Tourists and residents alike have been enjoying the high life in Fukuoka – over 100,000 of them have now taken in the city sights on an open top bus tour. The buses, launched in 2012 by Nishinippon Tetsudo, welcomed their 100,000th passenger in September, a landmark which the bus company plans to celebrate with a special ceremony on Oct. 10. Fukuoka City helped fund the purchase of the custom-made vehicles, which are used by 200 people daily. Sightseers can choose from three routes: the blue seafront tour, which passes the Yahoo! Dome and Fukuoka Tower, the red historical route, taking in the Machinaka Kushida Shrine and Fukuoka Castle ruins, or a night ride around the city centre. Tickets are ¥1,500 and can be purchased at Fukuoka City Hall in Tenjin. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 9/25
