Help Animals Affected by The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake

NPO Catnip (Companion Animal Trust Nippon), an animal welfare NPO based in Fukuoka, is calling for donations for the animals caught up in The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake. All donations received will be spent directly on animals and their evacuated owners. Catnip is accepting direct monetary donations, but they have also created a wishlist on Amazon, for items such as pet food and cages (though most of the items have already been bought), and are calling for animal-lovers in the area to offer assistance (call 050-5539-7187 or contact them through their website to find out what you can do to help). They are also searching for foster families for animals affected by the quakes, including settled foreigners who have not been able to adopt their own pet because they plan to leave Japan at some point. Foster families will not be paid, but the charity will pay for pet food and for vet expenses, and will set them up with the basic necessities. As Catnip points out, once the safety of one’s human loved-ones has been established, many people’s next concern is for their pets. English and Japanese-speaking staff available to help.
