24th Grand Kyoto Fair at Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin

START: Jan 13, 2016 END: Jan 18, 2016

64 shops are collaborating to bring the best of Kyoto to Fukuoka. Many of the establishments who will have booths at this fair have been in business for generations, so many of the stalls will literally sell a taste of history! Tawaraya Yoshitomi, which opened in 1755, will be selling jyo-namagashi (beautiful wagashi themed according to the season, ¥432 each), but hurry – only 30 are available each day! Shogoin Yatsuhashi Souhonten, another well-respected confectioner, will be hosting sweet-making demonstrations. If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, then peruse the traditional crafts; such as subomi cups (¥5,940) from Kyoto-style lacquerware shop Zohiko, which was founded in 1661. On Jan. 13 and Jan. 14 there will be a Kyoto-style dance performance, and a photo shoot by maiko (an apprentice geisha).
