Bus Tour to Chikugo for Fukuoka Now Readers
Nov. 26, 2017

English Speaking Guide – for the entire trip!
Only ¥4,100 per person! – details below.

Marvel at the area’s photogenic spots including two World Heritage Sites, seasonal scenery and traditional handicrafts. And we’ll also enjoy a lunch of steamed & grilled eel in the canal city of Yanagawa.

Miike Port & Miyanohara Pit at the Miike Coal Mines

We’ll begin with a visit to two of Japan’s most recently appointed World Heritage Sites. After viewing the Miike Port from an observation deck, we’ll visit a mine built with the collaboration from British mines.

Yanagawa Canal Cruising

Next, we’ll take a leisurely 70-minute cruise through the canals of Yanagawa. We’ll pass by quiet gardens, glide under bridges and be serenaded by the oarsmen.

Unagi Seiro Mushi Lunch at Ohana

For lunch we’ll enjoy a local delicacy, seiro-mushi (grilled eel with a savory sauce served on steamed rice), while enjoying a view of the Japanese gardens of the famous inn, Ohana. A substitute vegetarian meal is possible instead of eel lunch.

Lattice Workshop in Okawa

Kenjiro Watanabe has received two Prime Minister’s Awards in recognition of his magnificent lattice woodwork, known as kumiko in Japanese. We’ll visit his workshop and learn more about this delicate craft.

Shobunsu Vinegar Brewery

For over 300 years this family has been brewing vinegar. We’ll take a tour and do some tasting too!

Mushroom Picking Experience

At the Oki Michinoeki (roadside farmer’s market) customers can pick several varieties of mushrooms. Even if you do not buy some, it’s interesting to see.

The cost of this tour has been drastically reduced, in return for cooperation by tour participants in a short written survey to be conducted on the bus on the way back to Tenjin. Information gathered will be used by tourism related offices to promote the areas visited on this tour in the future. The surveys are anonymous. The ¥4,100 participation fee covers the actual cost of the lunch and the canal cruising. Transportation, the guide and other parts are in fact free, so this is a great value.

All seats for this tour have been reserved. Please monitor our website and SNS as we will announce a different bus tour in the coming weeks.
