Lanterns will light up Dazaifu city area on Sep. 23 and Sep. 25 during the Old City Lights Festival. The event is linked to the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine Festival on Sep 25. Lanterns can be purchased for ¥500 and the event starts at 18:00 both evenings. Usually, only the Dazaifu area is illuminated, but in celebration of the festival’s 7th anniversary, this year’s illumination is happening on two days at two different venues. The theme of the festival is “the light of the ancient capital”. On Sep 23, Seicho Ato, Kanzenon temple, and Mizuki Ato. (a very historical area of Dazaifu) will be illuminated. On Sep 25, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and the Kyushu National Museum area will be illuminated. The Kyushu National Museum will be open till 20:00 on the night of the 25th.
