Art seems to run in the blood of the Kozuru family. Gen Kozuru was born into a family that has been making Aganoyaki for 400 years, and now he and his children are putting on a special exhibit. Gen himself became an independent potter at the age of 26, and he went on to become the youngest winner of the Japan Kogei Association’s most prestigious award. Having been invited to Harvard in 1980, he decided to relocate to Boston. Gen is constantly creating new and innovative installations, which he presents at museums and national parks both in the U.S. and in Japan. For this exhibit he will be joined by his children: Dai, Ataru and Niho. Dai himself taught ceramics at Harvard in 2012, and currently works as an elementary school ceramics teacher at an international school in Fukuoka. Ataru’s stone carvings were displayed at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in 2008, and he continues to exhibit works in Fukuoka, Tokyo and Boston. Niho uses rubber to create colorful statues which are on display in Boston and Nebraska.
