Fancy doing something a bit different? Go haze picking! Haze is used to create wax, but the number of chigiriko (people who pick the wax fruits) is decreasing. To invigorate interest in this pastime, two special haze picking events are going to be held, one in Yame and one in Ukiha. Participants in this picking event will receive a Japanese wax candle at the end, as well as a “chigiriko certification”. Make sure to wear some clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty, and to bring some gunte (cotton work gloves). This event is free for members of the Chikugo Matsuyama Haze Restoration Committee (join on the day for ¥1,000).
