This annual festival takes place at the beginning of autumn every year to give the public an opportunity to witness hundreds of thousands of higanbana (red spider lilies) come into bloom. The deep red of the flowers is said to create a wonderful contrast against the golden rice stalks. Keep an eye out for the scarecrows in the surrounding terraces. Join the Basara Festival too – walk around the area, chat with the locals, and enjoy local food such as grilled yamame trout. Explore the area further by joining the Basara Tour Bus (Sep. 23 only, runs every 30 min.).
