Every year famous landmarks across Japan are illuminated with special blue lighting to mark World Diabetes Day (Nov. 14). Led by the World Diabetes Day Committee in Japan, the initiative aims to help spread awareness about diabetes. In Fukuoka, the main shrine at Dazaifu Tenmangu will turn blue this Saturday night, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. During the day there will be a range of events taking place so that visitors can find out more about the disease, including health counseling sessions, lectures, and displays.
