An introductory seminar will be held for people interested in volunteering as interpreters. The workshop will help train “community interpreters,” providing them with the skill-set required to support members of the international community who do not speak Japanese in everyday life as well as in times of crisis. Participants will learn how to provide care for overseas residents (specifically parents and children) during natural disasters, such as earthquakes. The training session will involve various role-play exercises, creating a platform for exchange so that potential volunteers can learn from other people’s experiences. Organizers are keen to attract people who wish to use their language skills in volunteering activities and workers engaged in supporting international residents, as well as those in Japanese language education.
