Wear a Kimono and stroll through a traditional Japanese town! Kitsuki City, dubbed Little Kyoto for its classic streets and stores, is just 2 hours from Hakata, 30 minutes from Beppu. It’s sloping streets, reminiscent of the Edo Period, provide the perfect setting for a kimono-wearing experience. “Warakuan Kimono Rental” offer a kimono service for just ¥2,000, including kimono rental and professional dressing. Hair styling not included. Select shops and restaurants in Kitsuki also offer discounts to customers wearing kimono – so don’t forget to stop along the way as you wander through the town. Finally, every third Saturday the town holds an event called “Kimono Kanshasai in Sho Kyoto Kitsuki” (Kimono Thanksgiving Festival) in which a professional photographer will take your photo, availble to take home for free! You’ll feel transported back to the Edo Period in Kitsuki City.
