The history of Kurosaki Gion Yamakasa stretches back as long as 400 years. Traditional floats will parade through the streets around Kurosaki Station, accompanied by powerful performances of hayashi music characterized with sounds of taiko drums, sho brass chimes, and trumpet tritons. Staging of taiko performances (7/15,) float performances (7/19) and the finale event (7/22) are the must-sees of the exciting one-week festival. The festival is listed as one of the intangible folk properties of Fukuoka Prefecture.
