Anything of form cannot hold its shape for eternity. For cultural properties made of fragile materials like lacquer and silk, periodic restoration is essential. This is why periodic restoration of cultural properties is necessary, and this is where the Sumitomo Foundation comes in. The Foundation has provided financial assistance for over 1,000 restoration works and repairs of various cultural properties. In commemoration of their 30th anniversary, Kyushu and Okinawan cultural assets as well as Buddha figures damaged by natural disasters which have been painstakingly restored will be on display.
