Miniature masterpieces made on the tips of pencils by Sohshi Hirata are now on exhibit at the Sup Stand Fukuoka cafe. He started crafting these incredibly detailed sculptures eight years ago when he saw pencil tip micro sculpture art pieces on television. Since then many of his work broke in the making process, but many sculptures were also finished to perfection. He says, “Pencils should be used for writing, crafting is of secondary importance” and he only uses pencils that are almost at the end of their useful lives for his artwork. In addition to 40 delicate pencil lead sculptures featuring lovely animals and alphabets, 10 pieces of Zentangle drawing are also on display. Magnifying glasses are available to get a better look.
