Studio Kura Resident Artist Exhibitions – January 2019

Well-known Itoshima artist-run gallery, studio and residency programme Studio Kura will host an exhibition featuring the work of five international artists currently working at the space. The artists come from Singapore, India and Malaysia.

The following outlines the five artists and their work.

Elsa Kwan (Singapore): “Friends ともだち”
Exhibition style: Motion Graphics

Elsa Kwan is a motion graphics designer based in Singapore. “I enjoyed the time spent with my friends and have also made new friends.” With her experiences spending time with her school and new friends in Itoshima, she presents character animations of the people she has been inspired by to show the warmth and friendly mood of the people even in this cold winter.

Aniruddha Khanwelkar (India): “Tales from Far Lands”
Exhibition style: Concept Design and Illustration

An illustrator and graphic designer based in India, Aniruddha Khanwelkar works on visual development for a graphic novel. The artists exhibits the series of images as an imaginative take on the beautiful countryside of Fukuoka, to capture the essence of the relaxed yet active lifestyle combined with several of the exotic locations and landmarks.

Ivy Koh (Singapore): “The Language of Plants 植物の言葉”
Exhibition style: Motion Graphics

Ivy Koh is a motion graphics designer from the sunny little island of Singapore. Inspired by seeing a lot of different flowers blooming despite during wintertime in Japan, Ivy exhibits a series of motion graphics combining plants and houses in her work.

Jun You Ang (Singapore): “Life in Itoshima 糸島での生活”
Exhibition style: Motion Graphics

A motion graphics designer from Singapore, Jun You Ang has explored and seen Itoshima and experienced the lifestyle of the residents. Based on these experience, he depicts the places, culture, and lifestyle in the area.

Zeno Siew (Malaysia): “Emotions: Moments in Life 感情の四季 人生の瞬間”
Exhibition style: Photography, motion design

A Malaysian motion graphics designer, Zeno Siew says “Our life is like a story. As we have good and bad moments in our lives, it is the ups and downs that makes our life interesting.” In this exhibition, Zeno expresses the different moments in life that is filled with various emotions, from his point of view.
