Tagawa is an area with strong links to the coal mining industry and was home to the Miike Mine. The mine is referred to in the famous Japanese folk song Tanko Bushi. The festival gives visitors the chance to learn about coal mining in the area. See the two huge coal mine chimneys lit up after the sun goes down! On Nov. 3 don’t miss the sumo tournament for children (10 am to 5 pm), special display of candles (4:20 pm onwards), lottery draw with prizes including a trip to Taiwan for two (5:30 pm), as well as a small fireworks, light and music show (6 pm). Join the so-odori (group dance) on Nov. 4 (3:30 pm)!
