A local gourmet “tai chazuke” fair using sea bream, a specialty of Fukutsu, is currently being held at 19 restaurants in Fukutsu City. The event is held to coincide with the opening of the Gochiami fishing season, a fishing method in which schools of fish are enclosed in a bag-like net and drawn to a fishing boat for capture. In addition to tai chazuke, a dish that differs in taste and preparation depending on the restaurant and household, visitors can enjoy risotto made with sea bream broth, sea bream curry, sea bream salt ramen noodles, and other menu items that are the pride of each restaurant that lavishly use fresh, natural sea bream caught in the Genkai Sea.
