Surprise your Japanese friends with an authentic New Year’s card! The Japanese have a custom of sending New Year’s Day postcards (nengajō) to their friends and relatives, similar to the Western custom of sending Christmas cards. In this workshop, a calligraphist from Kyoto teaches you how to write the kanji character for horse, next year’s oriental zodiac animal. You’ll also learn the origin of kanji and interesting stories related to calligraphy. The workshop is run in English and Japanese by instructor Ukyo Kamigori. This workshop is part of a series of Japanese cultural experiences “The Way of Japan” run by NPO Hearty Care Foundation to promote interaction amongst the international community.
