Up a narrow set of stairs on Oyafuko-dori, Baku has been in operation for more than 40 years. Step inside and it feels as if time has stood still. Some of the regulars who were in their 20s when Baku opened have since retired, but they keep coming back for the dishes offered up by owners Michiru and Ritsuko Oda. The original Metropolitan features a hamburg steak topped with fried egg all on a bed of meat sauce spaghetti. The omelets and gratins, unchanged since opening, are also popular. Admission to the adjacent gallery is free, and exhibits change every two weeks.
