When one thinks of a kebab joint, Ampoules isn’t what typically what comes to mind. Like many warm windows in Daimyo, this place is easy to walk past. I’ve done it several times, but once you do take the chance to venture inside you are rewarded with a charming locale that is a great place to begin and end your night. They offer plenty of small plates to soak up whatever poison you’ve poured down your gullet such as personal pizzas or the guru guru sausage, but you will be doing a disservice to yourself if you pass up the kebab set. The kebabs go down easy and are balanced out by savory chunks of fried potatoes and mixed pickles. Take your choice of four different sauces, ranging from a very mild yogurt sauce to a manageably spicy mamazukan sauce. Wash it all down with a highball or take advantage of the cocktail selection which includes contemporaries as well as a few that seem inspired by the owner’s travels in Europe such as the Spanish staple Calimocho. The ample seated bar which runs a good length of the establishment offers plenty of space to plop your rump and if you feel like going the distance, for just a scant ¥1,800 you can enjoy the generous two-hour all-you-can-drink special which includes Heinekens, sours, whiskeys, and cocktails. Intimate without feeling cramped, this spot is great for a first date, pre-funk or the odd get together. Mostly locals with random college students coming in, feel free to enjoy the sonic stylings of house DJ who mainly spins pop, hip hop, and whatever else the kids are listening to these days.
