Fourteen years ago, to the great pleasure of Apple fans in Kyushu, Apple Fukuoka Tenjin Store opened its doors on the corner of Kokutai-doro and Nishi-dori Ave. With its shiny metallic exterior, it immediately became a popular landmark in Fukuoka City. On September 28, 2019, a brand new Apple Store (Apple Fukuoka) opened approximately 150 meters north of the previous store. The new store boasts 50% more floor space and a ceiling nearly three times the height of the previous location. In 2018, Apple opened new stores in Shinjuku, Kyoto, and Marunouchi and refreshed the designs of its store in Shibuya and Omotesando. The newly opened store in Fukuoka, however, is the only Apple Store in the world to feature wall resembling shoji (Japanese paper screens). This gives the store a warm and softer feeling and compliments the plentiful natural light and views of bamboo gardens. The other unique to Fukuoka feature is The Boardroom, a well-appointed meeting space located in the basement. It will be primarily be used as space for business users to meet and make presentations, as is not open to the public. On opening day, an estimated 600 people lined up to be amongst the first to visit the new store and receive some special commemorative goods.
